Course: Ukeism: Beginning Ukulele for Elementary School Age Children

Length: 4 weeks with opportunity to re-enroll 

Cost: $15/class billed in a single payment of $60 or a per-class drop-in rate of $20/class

 

Ukulele is fun, accessible, and the perfect instrument for the beginning child musician! The instrument has a rich history in Hawaii and is now integrated into popular music around the world. Bellingham Music's Dallas Geil is an energetic and collaborative teacher who has been developing a program that will get kids playing music confidently! 

 

Who is this class designed for?

This class is designed for children ages 7 to 11 (about elementary age) with no prior music experience required! Kids who have music knowledge from school or have played another instrument will not find the class too slow paced as the material talked about is ukulele-specific and focused on playing songs. 

 

What will my child learn in this class? 

~6 basic chords and songs to play with them

~Strumming patterns

~Tuning and handling the ukulele

~Reading chord charts 

~Listening to music with the intention of learning to play it and places to find chord charts


What do I need to bring for the first day of class? 

~A ukulele (or purchase one through Bellingham Music to pick up at the first class)

~A tuner if you have one or a device which Dallas can help you download a tuner app onto


Who is my teacher?

Dallas Geil is an educator and multi-instrumentalist from Vancouver, WA specializing in flute, clarinet, and keyboard. He is a graduate of Western Washington University with a degree in music education. Dallas has worked with the Bellingham Symphony Orchestra to bring several educational programs into the greater-Bellingham community. Dallas has coached young musician's at Kulshan and Mount Baker Middle Schools, Whatcom Hills Waldorf, and in ensembles such as the Bellingham Youth Chamber Players and with the Fidalgo Youth Symphony.

We will collect credit card information when you submit this form, but you will not be charged right away. You will be invoiced each month you are actively enrolled in lessons or classes at Bellingham Music.
